Vampire Tasks:

(A) General Information

You are a famous monster researcher and you want to try to find out as much as possible about vampires in general. When you have all the information you need, you will contribute to the new "Encyclopedia of Monsters" with an article about vampires!

To do that, you can re-visit the wikipedia-homepage (and have a look at further links there), have a look at ugo or monstrous, or you can do your own research by using a good search engine on the internet or by visiting our library. It might also be interesting to find out where the word 'vampire' comes from... Also try to answer the following questions: How does a typical vampire look like? What does a typical vampire do? Where could you find vampires typically?

You have to take notes, because you need these information also later to prepare your presentation.

--> Now you can write your article for the Encyclopedia (approx. 80 words).

(B) Specific information

You are a journalist and you are really interested in vampires. To get more specific information about vampires you first do some reasearch together with your colleagues.

  • Vampires have a very long tradition and history. Try to find out more about that! Also take notes of important things you've learnt while reading relevant articles.
  • Try to find out more about the pysiological/biological aspects of vampires. How does one become a vampire? What are the typical physiological characteristics? How can a vampire be killed? Search the internet for these information. Maybe these links might help you: physiology / hunter's guide. Prepare a list with keywords answering these questions.
  • Try to find out more about famous vampires in literature and movies! Summarise one story you have found in 5-10 sentences. Interesting links could be wikipedia, vampirelibrary70bestvampiremovies and - of course - the Dracula novel, or any other useful homepage you can find on this topic.

--> After your research, you get really excited because you have the chance to talk to a real vampire! Write down your questions and the vampire's answers in form of an interview (minimum 5 questions).

(C) Vocabulary

While you are searching the internet and reading more about vampires, you should write down words that are important to understand when talking/reading about vampires! Prepare a list of these words (minimum 30 words) on the computer.

(D) Presentation

After your research, your group must give a presentation about vampires. The presentation should include all the important, interesting (and maybe funny?) things that you've learnt during your group work. It should be about 10minutes long and you can use powerpoint, flip charts, the blackboard, the OHP etc. Please also prepare a handout for the rest of the class.
